Ethical Behavior
ETHICAL BEHAVIOR OF THE JOURNAL CUADERNOS DE LA ALFAL
This declaration explains the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in the journal Cuadernos de la ALFAL, published by the Asociación de Lingüística y Filología de la América Latina (ALFAL), that is, the author, the editor, the referee and the association itself, represented in its board of directors.
The authors, simultaneously with the submission of their manuscript, must declare their acceptance of what is stated in "Obligations of the authors", below. This declaration is based on the internationally recognized Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
ETHICS COMMITTEE, CONSENT AND INFORMED ASSENT
In the case of research involving participants, authors should include all associated information in the methodology section. In addition, they should explicitly state that they have the approval of the Ethics Committee of the institution to which they belong along with the following statement:
The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the [NAME] University, under number [NUMBER].
The authors should also mention that they obtained the consent and/or informed assent of the participants and/or their legal representatives and assure that the rights of those participating in the study will be respected at all times. These requirements apply equally to participants of any age group. The inclusion of photographs, videos or audios involving minors will not be admitted, unless the authors demonstrate that they are essential for the understanding of the research and have the pertinent authorizations. The images, videos and audios should be intervened to ensure and protect the privacy of the people who appear in such media. Manuscripts that do not explicitly include this information will not be sent for peer review.
OBLIGATIONS OF THE EDITOR-IN-CHIEF DECISION ON PUBLICATION OF ARTICLES
The editor-in-chief of Cuadernos de la ALFAL is responsible for deciding which of the manuscripts submitted to the journal will be published; in doing so, she may be guided by the publication policies of the journal's editorial body, subject to legal requirements regarding libel, copyright, and plagiarism. The editor-in-chief may consult other editors when making this decision. Manuscripts will be evaluated solely on their intellectual merit without regard to race, sex, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic group, citizenship, or political philosophy of the author.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Neither the editor-in-chief nor any other member of the editorial staff should provide information about manuscripts received to individuals other than the corresponding author(s), referees, potential referees, other members of the editorial staff, or the Association.
CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
During the publication process, the information contained in the unpublished manuscript should not be used for personal research by anyone who has access to the manuscript, unless they have explicit permission from the author.
OBLIGATIONS OF REFEREES
ARBITRATION
The refereeing process consists of assisting the editor in making decisions, as well as helping authors to improve the quality of their manuscripts. Any referee who does not feel qualified to review the assigned manuscript or who feels unable to provide a timely review of the manuscript should notify the Editor-in-Chief and excuse him/herself from the review and refereeing process.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Manuscripts received should be treated as confidential documents. They should not be shown to or discussed with other individuals, with the exception of individuals designated by the editor.
STANDARDS OF OBJECTIVITY
Reviews should be conducted in an objective manner. They should not contain personal criticism of the authors. Referees should clearly express their opinions, with a rationale.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF SOURCES
Referees are in charge of identifying relevant works on the subject that have not been cited by the authors. Any statement that has been noted in a previous publication or work must be accompanied by the corresponding citation. The referee should also advise the editor if the manuscript has substantial similarities to other works of which he or she is aware.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Information and ideas obtained through the privilege of refereeing the manuscript should be kept confidential and not be used for personal gain.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST
Referees should not referee papers in which there is a conflict of interest resulting from competitive or co-authorship relationships or any other type of relationship with the authors, companies or institutions related to the manuscripts.
OBLIGATIONS OF AUTHORS SUBMITTING PAPERS
Authors submitting original research manuscripts should present an adequate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its relevance. The data should be presented in a reliable manner in the manuscript. The manuscript should contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inconsistent claims constitute a form of unethical behavior and are therefore unacceptable.
ACCESS TO DATA
Authors may be asked to provide the original data from their work in a timely manner and should be prepared to provide public access to the data. They should also be prepared to allow access to such data even after the manuscript has been published.
ORIGINALITY AND PLAGIARITY Submission of a paper for publication to Cuadernos de la ALFAL assumes that it is completely original. References to other authors must be explicitly acknowledged in the text through the corresponding citation mechanism in the bibliography.
MULTIPLE PUBLICATION
In general, the author should not submit manuscripts dealing with essentially the same topic and approach to more than one journal or similar publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal constitutes an unethical practice and is therefore unacceptable.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF SOURCES
In all cases, the author must explicitly acknowledge the work of others and cite the publications that by their nature have been influential in the work done.
AUTHORSHIP OF THE MANUSCRIPT
Authorship is limited to those who have contributed substantially to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. All those who have contributed in this way should be listed as co-authors. The collaboration of other individuals who have contributed in some other way should be acknowledged.
CORRESPONDENCE
One of the authors should be responsible for communication with the journal. He/she should ensure that all co-authors have been included in the manuscript, while at the same time ensuring that no inappropriate individuals are listed as co-authors. He/she should also ensure that all co-authors have seen the final version of the manuscript and agree to its publication.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF FUNDING SOURCES
Sources of funding for the research reported in the article should be acknowledged.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST Authors should also disclose any other sources of personal funding that may influence the interpretation of the data or discussion of the manuscript. All sources of funding for the project should be named.
MAJOR ERRORS IN PUBLISHED WORK When an author discovers a major error in his or her own published work, it is his or her obligation to notify the Editor-in-Chief or the Association promptly and to cooperate with the Editor-in-Chief in rectifying the error in the manuscript.
MEASURES IN CASE OF MISCONDUCT: If misconduct is detected in a published article and the authors refuse to provide a satisfactory solution, the manuscript will be withdrawn from the journal and an explanation of the decision will be included on its first page. Along with this, the Ethics Committee of the authors' institution will be formally notified of the situation.
COMPLAINTS PROCESS
To send a complaint to Cuadernos de la ALFAL, please write directly to the Editor-in-Chief at cuadalfal2010@gmail.com. Once the background information is received, the Editor-in-Chief will seek to clarify the situation with the Editorial Team or Disciplinary Editors, evaluating each case individually. The final decision, which cannot be appealed, will be informed by e-mail to the authors. In general terms, the journal Cuadernos de la ALFAL adheres to the guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
